2015 Nerd Year’s Resolutions
By: Meg Humphrey
So I may not have exactly hit all of my resolutions last year. That’s pretty normal for me as I’m sure it is for many people. Reminder: if you didn’t accomplish something you wanted to, think about all of the amazing things you DID do. I didn’t find a new job this year, but I joined a Star Wars podcast, Far Far Away Radio, that has brought a ton of joy to my life. I may not have lost very much body fat, but I ran three 5Ks this year. It’s all about perspective, so make sure you’re not too hard on yourself. Also don’t let it stop you from making a new set of resolutions this year (unless it stresses you out, then don’t worry about it). These are the things I’d like to work on in 2015!
Stay current with the new Star Wars canon.
There’s a lot of stuff going on in the Star Wars universe right now (I’m already behind), and plenty of it is now designated as being canon – meaning in the actual approved movie timeline by Lucasfilm. There are new novels, comics, TV shows, and short stories to imbibe and I want to keep my Star Wars knowledge to peak levels.
Make some art.
When I was in high school and college I sketched a lot. I’ve fallen out of the habit, but it’s something I’ve started to get into again. I forgot the joys of creating something like that and sharing it with others. My aim is to make a coloring book based on Star Wars creatures this year!
Keep up with Crossfit.
I’m nerdy about fitness, so this totally counts. More on my actual crossfit introduction later, but I’ve tried this out, drank the kool-aid, and I want to see where it takes me. I’m getting closer to Vin Diesel status WOD by WOD.
Finish a Cosplay.
I have all the materials I need, wigs included, for an unbelievably awesome crossover cosplay. It’d be a) a shame for all of that material (and money) to go to waste and b) it’s so cool everyone needs to see it. I must finish this year for Emerald City Comic Con.
