Meet the Staff: LB Chambers

Interview by Terra Olsen

What are your favorite things to nerd out on?

Literature! Basically anything written I will read, and I mean ANYTHING (as a child I was caught reading whatever was left around, camera instructions, adult novels, home and garden magazines- everything!)

I lean towards non-fiction (like Incognito- I can’t put it down right now!) and the very fictitious (fairy tales, poetry- especially when it’s dark or dreary).

Other than that- video games (mostly anything Bioware, MMORPGs, and old Playstation 2 games), board games, card games, Egyptology and archaeology and anthropology (books about these subjects fill my home!), Disney movies, and retro looks. Also organization, which might not count for some but counts for me!

When did you realize that you were a ‘nerd’?

I honestly can’t remember not being a nerd- my grandmother taught me to read very young so even in kindergarten I was that kid carrying an armful of books and trying to convince other kids that reenacting The Monkey’s Paw would be way more awesome than tag (I never did convince anyone to play such a scary game).

What is your favorite ‘nerdy’ possession?

My ultimate all time favorite nerdy possessions are my Fijian cannibal tools left to me by my grandmother, my complete collection of The Enchanted Series by Time Life, and my still working SNES.

What is the one book you could read over and over again?

I have read and re-read Blankets and Goodbye, Chunky Rice (both by Craig Thompson) probably a hundred times each over the last few years. They are both beautiful graphic novels that can be completed in one sitting, and are so near and dear to my heart that I rarely recommend them as it would break my heart if someone read one of them and told me they didn’t enjoy it!

Why did you join Have You Nerd?

I loved being a freelance video game journalist for a couple years and met some amazing people, but I rarely got to engage with other nerdy women! After moving to Seattle and joining the staff at GeekGirlCon I realized I needed a nerdy, writing outlet as well and Have You Nerd just seemed like the perfect place for me!

Perfect meal. Describe!

Perfect meal? Well, as I like to eat everything I’ll just detail what I’m eating tonight (and very excited for!)

Costco cheese pizza, baked parmesan zucchini fries with ranch, and whiskey gingers! Followed by various Girl Scout cookies (Tagalongs! Yum!)

What makes it perfect is that I’ll be eating with my fiancé and friends, and afterwards there will be a few rounds of Munchkins and Pandemic!
