Healthy Nerd: Couch Potato No More

By: Andrea Cole

Have you ever done a marathon of your favorite TV show only to be told, by a person or the streaming service of your choice, that you’ve been watching for a while and maybe it’s time for a break? This is often their way of saying that maybe you should get off the couch for a bit and do something active. Know what I say to that? Phooey. We’re adults here and are capable of making our own decisions. But… maybe they have a point. It is generally accepted that everyone should aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, so why not use the time-honored tactic of multitasking? Watch your shows and get fit at the same time.

I’ve compiled a list of exercise games based on a variety of TV shows that will inspire you to get up and move. Let’s get sweating, shall we?

Doctor Who:

Vampire Dairies:

Dexter:

Game of Thrones:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

30 Rock:

The Walking Dead:

Don’t know some of these exercises? No problem! Here’s each move and a YouTube video showing you how to do it.

These exercises are intended for fun and recreation. Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting a new diet or exercise routine.
