Reuse Candle Jars

Reuse Candle Jars (DIY)

By Katie Neely

What do you do with your used up jar candles? They always have a bit of wax in the bottom and usually get tossed in the trash or that candle that burned all the way down leaving behind tons of untouched wax. Here is a creative way to make your own recycled candles.

Supplies:

  • Candle wicks with a metal base (found at any craft store)
  • Used jar candle
  • Clean jar candle
  • Pot with boiling water

Instructions:

  • Boil water in a pot (enough water to reach at least 1/2 way up your glass jar)
  • Place your jar candle with left over wax in the pot of boiling water (you can also cut up pieces of regular candle and place them in the glass jar to melt)

  • Boil the used jar in the water until the wax is completely melted
  • Place a new candle wick in the center of the clean jar
  • Using oven mitts (the jar in boiling water will be very hot) take the used jar out of the boiling water and pour it into the clean jar with the candle wick
  • The wick will move around as you pour in the melted wax,  you will be able to position the wick where desired after pouring the first layer
  • Let the wax cool before adding additional layers
  • Continue this process as desired or until you run out of wax
  • You can also clean out your used jars and reuse them for more candles or other projects.
