Adorable Artist Spotlight: Casey Robin
By: Meg Humphrey
I’m a big fan of art that uses traditional media. Not that I think there’s anything wrong with completely digital art, but there’s just something about paint and pencil that appeals to me so much more!
When I saw Casey Robin’s “Mermaids for Every Season” reblogged on Tumblr, I had to go check her out and see what other beautiful pieces she had done!
I really appreciate that her works feature girls of different skin tones and body shapes. She enjoys giving twists to classic stories and fairy tales including a Bollywood version of The Nutcracker and an African version of Bearskin by the Brothers Grimm.
Casey is a big fan of Harry Potter and has several works to show off her fandom! Maybe you’ve seen them around?

Thanks Meg! I really appreciate the shout-out 🙂 I love using traditional media. While I was at Disney I worked almost exclusively with a Wacom, which is wonderfully efficient and great for quick character designs as well as fancy paintings. When I have a choice, though, I’ll almost always grab my paints and pencils (and my nostalgic favorite: Prismacolor pencils.) I love the smell and the sense of danger, having no undo button, having to live with your choices and make them work somehow. Admittedly, I can be a little computer-shy, too. For instance, all my work appears just fine on my PC, but comes out too fluorescent and green on Macs, and I have no idea why! Someday I will solve this mystery, but for today I’ve got some painting to do.
Thanks again for the kind words.
Cheers,
Casey Robin
