Geekie Awards: The Aftermath
By: Terra Clarke Olsen
Meg and I attended The Geekie Awards last night, and boy what a night! We met so many incredible geeks and saw so many fabulous outfits. (Us nerds clean up well.) We didn’t win, but feel so honored to have been nominated for the “Best of” website category. And a big congratulations to Adam and Gary of The Nerd Machine for winning! We met the guys responsible for the site while in line, and they were complete sweethearts.
And a big shout of to Wrong Button Blog and All Geek to Me, whom we sat with and commiserated over our loss. 😉
As you can imagine, a lot of pictures were taken, so we’re just going to get to the good stuff. Here are some highlights from the night:
Stan Lee received a lifetime achievement award, and even read us a hymn.
Met Steve Frech, the creator of What Do You Know, a rad podcast (that you should of course check out!) . Also got to know his crew, Raymond, Natalie, and Aaron (the producer of ‘What Do You Know’), who are all amazing people as well! (Spent most of the night talking with them. Good peoples!)
Had the pleasure of meeting Sachin, Dane, and Geoff from Soul Cake, the creators of the actual Geekie Award! An amazing raygun that you can remove from its stand. Again, amazing people!
Also chatted with the creative minds behind Batman Puppet Master (a project you will probably see featured on here in the near future). Again, amazing people!

Bobak from NASA (and a UW grad) accepting the Geek Cred award

Dane, Kristen, Meg, and Terra at the end of the night
The theme of the night was ‘Amazing People!” all around. We had so much fun and feel lucky to have been able to rub elbows with fellow nerds for a full night of celebration.
And one last shout out to Kristen for putting this amazing show together!
So wonderful to meet you two lovely ladies, Terra and Star Wars Meg! You are the coolest! May the Force be with you.
Great meeting you, ladies! Had a blast! Medieval History Degree: Where the Jobs Are!
I had such a great time at the geekies and I’ve met so many great people, including you guys (and the steam punks who shocked Terra 😉 )
I hope we can meet again at the next show!
