My! What a Big Pull Box You Have!
Take 1
By: Sabrina Taylor
Welcome to the first edition of – “My! What a Big Pull Box You Have!” My run down of what I’m looking forward to in my own at my local comic book shop. I also plan to include any rants and raves I have about current issues in the comic book industry as well.
First up we have….
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon – Short Stories Vol. 1:
You guys, it’s so cute. I honestly wasn’t ready to say good-bye to the series yet so it was nice to have theShort Stories volumes to look forward to.
Without giving away too many spoilers, I can tell you that each of the stories are wonderful in their own way. Really! I have to admit that I adore Chibi-Usa. There’s something so bittersweet and just touching during her story with Elios that I always wanted to see and know more about her life after those experiences. If you’re a fan of Chibiusa, then this volume is for you.
Adventure Time – Candy Capers #3:
So Peppermint Butler freaks me out. Doesn’t he freak you out? There’s just something about him that is just….off… I’m not sure what it is. Anyways, I’ve been loving this series and if you’ve missed the first two issues – shame on you – you can still get into the fun with issue number three. Cinnamon Bun and Princess Bubblegum’s loyal butler, Peppermint Butler, are on the case and make their way through the land of death. But of course, it’s not all spooky stuff – it is a kids show after all. Or so they say it’s a kid show.
Where I rant about “Forever Evil” :
So, for those of you who don’t know – DC Comics has lost their minds. It hurts me to even type that. I grew up reading nothing but DC/Vertigo and I always stood on their side during endless “DC vs Marvel” debates. But I just…I can’t do it anymore. And it really makes me sad. One of the reasons I can’t is because of the most recent story arch in the DC Universe – Forever Evil. We all know about The New 52, right? DC reboots their universe for the sake of simplifying timelines and making things easier to follow along. This reboot caused many changes to many beloved characters and series but most of us took the pain because we were told it was for all the right reasons. And, after a little more than a year later, we are introduced to a story arch that reveals that there’s an Earth 3 within the DC Universe? And, adding insult to injury, all of the main titles are currently being taken over by back stories about various villains – ones that most comic book readers are already familiar with. Oh, and did I mention that the 3-D covers on these special edition issues are pretty bad? They really are. My boyfriend actually said they hurt his eyes. And something about the covers reminds me of something I’ve seen before. Like something someone did in the 90′s… Then you add the debacle with Batwoman – which requires a completely separate post and the recent as “suicidal.” And I just. I can’t do it anymore. I am actually pretty sad about it. I kinda feel like I’m breaking up with a long-time significant other. But I don’t know what else to do.
Is anyone else breaking up with DC? If so, how do you feel about it and what are you adding to your pull box?
