ECCC Happenings: I Heart Comic Art
By: Terra Clarke Olsen
Emerald City Comicon is just a few short days away, and this year is looking to be better than ever. But it’s not just the con that’s adding to the “must see” list, rather there are plenty of events happening all over the city in relation to the con (and many don’t require a badge!). In particular, the I Heart Comic Art event is a must-see for any comic book lover who appreciates helping indie artists.
Presented by Ladykiller (a kickass marketing firm for artists) and Eventbrite, I Heart Comic Art is happening this Thursday, March 27th at 7:30 at the Velocity on Capital Hill. Described as “live crowdfunding meets art,” the event will display work by Seattle artists, which the attendees then vote on. The winner will receive an artist grant to continue their work, while the runners up will receive other great prices from Wacom, Plantronics, and Dick Blick’s Art Supply Store.
In addition to great art, there will awesome geeky activities happening all night, such as comics-themed burlesque, live DJs, performances from members of the Can Can Castaways, and live art sessions. Not to mention Seattle’s Hilliard’s Beer, Rain City Spirits, Proletariat Wine, and Caffe Vita will be sponsoring free drinks. Oh, and just to top it off, there will be door prizes and an auction. All in all, the perfect way to kick off the weekend. Tickets are $12 online ($20 at the door), and all the proceeds go towards the artist grant.
