MIT’s Origami Robot: Cutest Breakthrough Ever

By: TCO

Well, they did it. MIT created the cutest robot ever. But this robot is not just adorable, but functional beyond imagination. It’s development is a breakthrough that will change the science world as we know it.

This little robot can fold, move, swim, push, dig, and then dissolve!

The robots are made out of sheets of plastic and a magnet, and are powered from a coin cell battery. As IEEE Spectrum notes, “This is the first time that a robot has been able to demonstrate a complete life cycle like this, and eventually, it’ll be doing it inside your body.”

The things of science-fiction are real.

To learn more, check out the paper “An Untethered Miniature Origami Robot That Self-folds, Walks, Swims, and Degrades,” which was presented at ICRA 2015 in Seattle, WA.
